District Adult Education Office, Lunglei was
established in 1978 under Adult Education
Department, Mizoram. Adult Education Department
is a wing under School Education Department.
District Adult Education Office of Lunglei
District deals with literacy. The main object of
this office is to eradicate illiteracy. All the
villages inhabited by Mizo has been achived
total literacy. Villages inhabited by Chakma,
Bru, etc are not yet achieved total literacy.
Total literacy percentage of Lunglei District is
Male - 87. 36%, Female - 81. 04%. Total - 84.
20%.
In the beginning under functional literacy
project Adult Education centers were opened in
diferrent villages. Instructors / Instructress
taught adult leaners in Adult Education Centers.
At the end of the year Adult leaners appeared in
Examination. Those who were succeeded in the
examination were declared literate.
Now, Education Programme is continuing, under
this programme 82 ( eighty two) continuing
Education centers were opened in different
villages under Lunglei District. Furthur, every
CECs are provided different kinds of books, for
the benefit of neo-literates.
In the near future, new Project National
Mission for female literacy is expected to be
launched to eradicate illiteracy among adult
female illiterates. In this connection, survey
is going on in all the villages of Lunglei
District follow up programme under this project
may be taken after finding out total female
illiterates.
District Adult Education Office Lunglei is
headed by District Adult Education Officer,
strength of staff under him are 3 ( three )
Circle Adult Education Officers, 1 ( one ) UDC,
2 ( two ) LDCs and 3 ( three ) group ‘ D’. At
present private building belong to F. Sapa Ex.
MLA Venglai, opposite Saikuti Hall is occupying
by District Adult Education Officer, Lunglei. |
